Request Counseling Services

The North Carolina Agromedicine Institute Farm Stress Counseling program connects agricultural producers, workers, and families to local mental health services.

Counseling and behavioral health services are made possible with support from the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, and US Department of Agriculture.

Who is eligible to receive vouchers?

Eligible recipients include adults (age 18 or older) who live, work, or serve agriculture and are residents of North Carolina.

How will I receive the vouchers?

After submitting a request for counseling online or by calling the NC Farm Help Line,  you will get an email or be mailed the voucher, depending on your preference. From there, you will select and contact your preferred participating provider.

Is insurance required?

The counseling voucher program does not contact or require insurance coverage to access services.

How do I find a provider?

Once you submit a request for services, we will send you a list of participating providers, and you can pick which provider you want to work with. If you have any concerns with this process, you can contact the NC Farm Help Line and we can assit you.

What does a voucher cover?

Each voucher covers one individual session with a mental health provider. You’ll give your provider one voucher per visit, and they’ll handle the paperwork by submitting it for reimbursement. Vouchers are valid for six months from the date they’re issued.

How many vouchers can I get?

Your request will provide you with three vouchers, each reedemable for one individual session. Vouchers are given out in the order we receive requests while funding is available. You can keep meeting with your provider after using your vouchers, but we can only reimburse the sessions with a valid voucher. Please communicate with your provider how you would like to proceed once vouchers are no longer applied.

How is my information kept private?

We take confidentiality seriously. Your name, address, and any other personal details will be kept private by our team and won’t be shared or distributed. Once you’re assigned a voucher number, that number—not your name—will be used as your identifier. Mental health providers will never share your files or medical history with the North Carolina Agromedicine Institute, or anyone involved in the farm stress program.

What if I’m already seeing a counselor? Can I still request vouchers?

If you’re already working with a mental health provider who isn’t part of our program yet, no problem—justhave them call the NC Farm Help Line, and they can join our network and accept vouchers in the future.

Do I have to be a resident of North Carolina?

Yes, this program is specifically for adults (age 18 or older) living in Noth Carolina who identify as working in the agricultural industry or any of their immediate family members.
