Request Counseling Services

The FRSAN-NC Counseling Program connects members of North Carolina’s agricultural community with confidential mental health counseling at no cost to them. Eligible individuals are connected with licensed mental health professionals who understand the unique experiences and challenges of agricultural life.

The program serves farmers, farmworkers, fishermen, forestry workers, their families, and others who work in or serve agricultural communities across North Carolina.

FRSAN-NC provides financial assistance to help cover the cost of counseling services for North Carolina farmers, farmworkers, fishermen, forestry workers, their families, and others who work in or serve agricultural communities.

Adults age 18 and older may receive financial assistance through the program. Financial assistance is also available for counseling services for children and youth under age 18 when requested by a parent or legal guardian.

Submit a request for counseling online or call the NC Farm Help Line. After we receive your request, we will send you a list of participating providers, and you can choose which provider you would like to work with.

No. Insurance is not required to receive counseling through the FRSAN-NC Counseling Program. Counseling services are provided at no cost to eligible participants.

FRSAN-NC works directly with participating providers to pay for approved counseling sessions. You will not need to pay for an approved session upfront or submit paperwork to FRSAN-NC for reimbursement. Your provider will handle the payment process directly with our program.

FRSAN-NC does not cover cancellation or no-show fees. Some providers may ask you to keep a payment method on file to cover these fees if you miss an appointment or cancel outside of their cancellation policy. Your payment method will not be charged for counseling sessions covered by FRSAN-NC. Be sure to ask your provider about their cancellation and no-show policies when scheduling your appointment.

Financial assistance applies to counseling sessions with participating providers in the FRSAN-NC network and is available as program funding allows.

When you submit an initial request for counseling support, FRSAN-NC can provide financial assistance for up to three individual counseling sessions with a participating mental health provider. This allows you to connect with a provider, begin counseling, and determine whether that provider and their services are a good fit for your needs.

If you would benefit from continuing counseling after your first three sessions, you may request additional financial assistance from FRSAN-NC. Additional sessions may be approved as long as program funding remains available. You are not limited in how long you can continue working with your counselor; FRSAN-NC financial assistance applies only to sessions approved for payment through the program.

If FRSAN-NC is no longer able to cover the cost of your sessions, you can choose to continue counseling directly with your provider. We encourage you to talk with your provider about insurance, self-pay rates, sliding-scale options, or other payment arrangements that may be available if funding concludes.

Any personal information you provide when requesting financial assistance for counseling is kept private, stored in password-protected folders accessible only to the FRSAN-NC team, and used solely to help administer the FRSAN-NC Counseling Program.

Your mental health provider will not share your counseling records, medical history, patient-identifying information, or details about what you discuss during counseling with FRSAN-NC, the North Carolina Agromedicine Institute, or others involved in administering the program. FRSAN-NC may receive limited information needed to process payment for approved counseling sessions, but we do not receive information about what is discussed between you and your provider.

If you are already working with a mental health provider, you may still request financial assistance through FRSAN-NC. If your current provider is already part of our participating provider network, you may be able to continue seeing them while FRSAN-NC helps cover the cost of approved sessions.

If your provider is not currently part of our network, ask them to contact the NC Farm Help Line to learn more about becoming a participating provider. Our team can work with them to determine whether they are eligible to join the program.

Yes. FRSAN-NC financial assistance for counseling is available to individuals who live or work in North Carolina and are connected to the state’s agricultural community.
